Toyota History

Toyota was established as the Toyota Motor Corporation in 1937. It was spurred on by the production of the Model AA car in 1936, which was created with the money made from selling the previous Toyoda Spinning and Weaving Company that was the forefather to the automotive entity. Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. started in 1957 and introduced the Toyopet Sedan, the first model established in the United States. While it was produced by Japanese hands for that year, it was redesigned with American drivers in mind and enjoyed success in 1965. In the 1960s and 1970s, Toyota saw a period of excessive growth, becoming the largest vehicle manufacturer in Japan and further expanding to the United States. Production in the U.S. started in 1986 after a merger between Toyota and General Motors. Toyota brought forth their luxury brand, Lexus, in 1989, a hybrid-power vehicle in the Prius in 1997 and the Scion brand in 2003. While Toyota suffered bumps throughout 2008, like all automobile companies did, during the financial crisis, today Toyota has seen strides across the world and enjoys success in both production and sales.
